The Importance of Bathroom Upgrades

One of the best ways to increase the value, and the marketability of your home, is to upgrade the bathroom. This could be as simple as making sure there are enough electrical outlets, preferably twins that could act as “his and hers” stations, to complete renovations with new fixtures and plumbing.

Another consideration is if you are looking at the master bathroom, guest bathroom, or a single bathroom that is used by all. If your main and/or guest bathroom is on the main floor of the house, it is best if it doesn’t share a wall with the kitchen or living room, for privacy reasons. Main bathrooms should not skimp on drawer or cupboard space. The ideal is one drawer allotted for each bedroom, and that there is enough space to hold everything that is on the counter.

Master bathrooms have evolved over the last decades to be decadent spaces, sometimes having en-suite jetted-tubs, toilets in separate rooms, glass stall showers and lots and lots of light and storage space. A must is the “his and hers” sinks.  A plus is the separate shower. As far as the tub, only put in one that is big enough for needs. If you and your significant other are not big on soaking together you might just settle on single model.

While the quality of your bathroom furnishings should match the quality of the rest of your home, you might want to reconsider before installing a feature that won’t necessarily add any value. That is of course unless you can’t bear to be without a $20,000 shower with countless shower heads, multi-coloured LED lighting and integrated stereo speakers. Fun, but doesn’t increase the value by much. On the other hand, putting in a bathroom fireplace, steam shower or heated floors will increase your enjoyment and the bottom line of your luxury bathroom.
